The highlight of the musical program for the 97th National Alpine Troops Gathering, “Cori sotto la Lanterna” will bring together Alpine songs and Genoese choral music with performances by the Voci d’Alpe Choir of Santa Margherita Ligure, the Soreghina Choir, and the Monte Cauriol Choir. The proceeds will be donated to charity.
The Monte Cauriol Choir, founded in Genoa in 1950, is one of the city’s longest-standing choral groups. Having grown in popularity thanks to the success of its concerts, it has developed an original repertoire over the years, shaped by the historic leadership of Armando Corso and later continued by his son Massimo.
The Soreghina Choir, the official choir of the Genoa branch of the A.N.A., conducted by Maestro Roberto De Luca, comprises forty singers and performs a repertoire ranging from Alpine and mountain songs to folk, sacred, and traditional Genoese songs. Founded in 1982, it takes its name from the character of the same name in Ladin folklore, mentioned in the final verses of the famous song “La Montanara.”
The Voci d’Alpe Choir, founded in 1969 in Santa Margherita Ligure, has its roots in the spontaneous passion of a group of Alpine troops who would gather to sing after their Friday dinners. The turning point came when they met Maestro Dante Sciutti, who agreed to conduct the choir, transforming an impromptu group into a true choral ensemble.
Music plays an important role for the Alpini. Their songs, which originated in the trenches of World War I, tell of life at the front, homesickness, the mountains, and love, and have become part of the musical heritage of entire generations. At the same time, instrumental music—which was used to set the pace for marches in military life—has always accompanied the ceremonies of both active-duty and retired Alpini.
