The three Sonatas of the Twentieth Century for clarinet and piano are part of a chamber music repertoire of great difficulty, in which the two instruments dialogue, within the classical form, in a wide variety of musical languages and styles: from Guastavino’s Argentine romantic nationalism to Horowitz’s delicate jazz inflections, passing through the brilliance of a young Bernstein.
