A special screening of DANTE ALL’OPERA, a television show that the Fondazione Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova has produced in 2021 to celebrate the art and figure of Dante Alighieri seven hundred years after his death, in collaboration with Classica HD (Sky, channel 136).
Dante all’Opera is a journey through two worlds. On the one hand, women: the many historical figures and legendary heroines who inhabit the Divine Comedy; on the other hand, music, that is, the works of the authors who, from Purcell to Donizetti, Debussy to Puccini, drew on Dante in their works. A path taken in the certainty that Dante and melodrama are two pillars of our identity and culture.
Piero Maranghi guides us on this journey, accompanied by philologist Elisabetta Tonello.
Six internationally renowned singers – Sara Mingardo, Serena Gamberoni, Daniela Cappiello, Francesca Dotto, Giorgia RotoloandMarta Torbidoni – perform opera arias related to the theme, with Orchestra and Chorus of Opera Carlo Felice Genova conducted by Michele Spotti.
Other stars of Dante all’Opera are Genoese artist Vanessa Beecroft and young violinist Giovanni Andrea Zanon.
Experts in the field such as musicologist Silvia Corbetta and professors Alberto Beniscelli and Biagio Santorelli help us explore the different themes of the play-Dante and music, Dante and women, Dante and Genoa. On stage, actress Linda Caridi reads some verses from the Divine Comedy.
The show was produced by the Fondazione Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, and produced in March 2021 by Samanta Chiodini, Paolo Gavazzeni, Claudio Giunta and Piero Maranghi.
